At Moss Side Primary School, we know that every child has their own unique needs and interests to be fostered and encouraged. By the end of their Reception year with us, we aim to build the strong foundations that will enable them to take the next steps along the Moss Side Way.
Respect for learning
We believe that EYFS is vital in creating the strong building blocks to a love of learning. The children in Reception are introduced to a wide variety of learning opportunities, which introduce them to new worlds, knowledge and skills. Phonics, reading and an enjoyment of stories plays an important part of daily life at Moss Side. Our tailored maths curriculum is designed to develop a solid understanding of the essentials of the number system. Staff aim to encourage each child’s confidence, resilience and perseverance in the face of any new learning or challenge.
Respect for others
When you join Moss Side, you and your family become part of our community. We embrace and welcome all religions, cultures, abilities and families. Every child is individual and special and, together, we learn to value everyone’s contribution to the world. We share and reinforce the idea of ‘kind hands, kind feet and kind words’ so that children respect others’ feelings and bodies. As staff, we aim to build safe and positive relationships with the children in our community, which fosters a secure base from which to flourish.
Respect for ourselves
We want the children at Moss Side to have fun and try their best! Children will learn in an environment where they are encouraged to make the most out of every day and join in with every opportunity. Our nurturing community promotes active and creative learning and allows children to be curious and critical thinkers. We learn how to keep our minds and bodies healthy so that we are happy and ready to learn.
Respect for school and the environment
From the beginning of a child’s journey at Moss Side, they learn to respect and take responsibility for our school, classroom and learning equipment. By learning about the world around us, we discuss everybody’s role in taking care of our planet and local environment. Each child is a member of our Moss Side family and plays a part in looking after our school and making it a happy place to be!
